About Us

Mission

Faithful to the tradition of Catholic education, Country Day School of the Holy Union strives to celebrate and educate the whole person, gifts and talents, rights and responsibilities. It firmly believes that each person is created in the image and likeness of God and attempts to create an environment where character is formed and where each student is respected and taught to respect self, others, and creation. Country Day School of the Holy Union seeks to provide students with strong academic skills and educational opportunities that will allow them to develop to their fullest potential. It strives to educate students to think for themselves within a community of wisdom and a tradition of faith.

Philosophy

Country Day School of the Holy Union is a Catholic elementary school which draws its life and spirit from that of the Holy Union Sisters who administer the school’s program and purpose. The goal of Country Day School of the Holy Union is to provide professional instruction reflective of the teachings of Jesus Christ and in conformity with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Through dedicated faculty members and in collaboration with parents, it strives to cultivate spiritual and moral values that will guide its students to live their faith as active members of the Catholic Church.

Country Day School of the Holy Union aims to foster unity and community by developing in its students a deep awareness of God’s presence in the world, in their lives, and in the lives of others. Opportunities to experience Christian community are provided through worship, work, play and service. Country Day School of the Holy Union provides a well-rounded and academically stimulating curriculum that encourages the intellectual and cultural development of its students, allowing them to grow to their fullest potential.

Academics

Country Day School of the Holy Union is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Department of Education of the Archdiocese of Boston. The curriculum of Country Day School reflects the values of the school. It addresses the spiritual, moral, physical, intellectual, social, and aesthetic development of the students. The curriculum also reflects Catholic beliefs and develops each student's responsibility to self, family, school, and community. This includes a sensitivity for social justice and global peace.

Discipline

The moral obligation for training children rests first with the parents.  The school implements and extends parental training. It is important that parents and school work together to hold the same values. The school expects that all students show respect and courtesy toward all teachers, school staff, and each other.

Individual Accomplishment

Country Day School provides the tools and guidance the students need to discover their individual talents. Emphasis on self-discipline and a purposeful atmosphere enable the students to focus their energies on individual accomplishment. Self-expression through writing and speaking is woven into the curriculum at all grade levels. Writing newsletters, performing in plays and learning public speaking are a few of the methods that help develop communication skills and enhance self-esteem. In promoting spiritual and moral wholeness, and upholding the dignity and self-respect of each student, Country Day gives its students the confidence and encouragement needed to discover their unique talents. Students consistently score well above the average in national standardized tests and gain acceptance into the secondary school of their choice.
